Because He’s Happy

I took Mason to the Stars vs Blues game tonight.  I wore my Blues jersey and Mason chose to wear his Stars jersey.  He originally was going to wear his Blues one, but after I told him the Blues were on a four game slide he made a wise choice and went with the Stars.  We had some pretty good seats behind the Blues bench for a pretty good game…for the Stars.  Mason walked away with a tshirt he caught during intermission and a game puck given to him by a fellow Blues fan that was tossed to him from the bench after it was fired in and hit the glass behind the players.  To top it off, Mason did his happy dance after game and was photo bombed by an odd twosome of grown men dressed as a mouse and a coyote?  They were sober men, dressed as a pink mouse and a coyote.  Now that I put this in type, I question why I spent a few minutes talking hockey with them and allowing them anywhere near Mason.  🙂

She’s Back

Today we were blessed to have Kobi return to the homestead for a visit on her drive around the country.  She arrived in time to help pick up the boys from school and each reception from the boys was as precious as the other.  You can tell they both really missed her a ton, even though she did not return from London with an autograph from the Queen.  It didn’t take long before Mason had suckered Kobi into a high stakes game of MASON (think horse) with the mini basketball on the mini hoop.  Mason comes up with some rather imaginative shots, including one from the scooter that I had a great video of that I can’t get to work.  Oh well, at least Mason can say that he beat Kobi at basketball, he just doesn’t have to mention that her name ends with an I instead of an E.

I’ll work on some more embarrassing videos that can be posted while she is in town.

Finally…Baseball

While Mason has been playing baseball of some sort since he was four, he has finally started to play kid pitch.  This year we decided to play our 8U team up into the 9U rec league so that the kids could get a head start on pitching.  I was warned by a lot of people about how boring it will be, but I have actually found these games to be much more enjoyable than the coach pitch games.  Part of that may be due to it being recreational and so we can focus more on development, but the other part is largely due to it being actual baseball and watching the kids pitch.  It also helps that we are winning.  🙂  This past Saturday Mason took a stab at pitching and he completed 2 innings (the max allowed) and struck out three while giving up 2 earned runs.

Strange Sight

You won’t see this much longer…

To help clarify, these stats are sorted by stolen base.  AND Mason is the name on top.  Perhaps it is his lack of speed that enables the catcher to make it close and thus the stolen base is not labeled as defensive indifference?  Either way, he is on top for today.  🙂

Lord Stanley

As we are getting closer to the start of the Stanley Cup playoffs, one that if the season ended today would start with my beloved Blues against the Stars, I found these pictures from a Stars outing from last year where Mason hoisted his own version of the cup.  I suppose this is a TBT version of Wednesday, but hey, it’s been over three months now and our days aren’t all that exciting on a regular basis.

Mason’s Fool

Yesterday Mason was explaining to me what he wanted to do in order to play a joke for April Fools Day and it involved an elaborate scheme using a blue cheese dressing packet and a wire hanger or any wire of some sort.  The objective was to place the dressing packet above a door way and attach it to the wire so that when the poor fool walks by the dressing will splatter all over the unsuspecting fool.  When I told him that wasn’t a good idea he then asked if he could set some sort of trip wire (no idea where he gets these thoughts).  This is when I tried to explain the nature of fooling someone and ruined his fun of trying to injure or blue cheese someone.  Fast forward to this evening and the boys are in the living room while I am in the kitchen and Cutler let’s out a man size belch (I will admit I am kind of proud of his skills) followed by Mason asking him why he would do that and he continued to tell me that Cutler belched right in his face.  Because I wouldn’t put this past Cutler I immediately asked Cutler what he was thinking and why he did it.  Low and behold Mason figured out the spirit behind the day and I became Mason’s Fool sans blue cheese and trip wire.

Spring Is Officially Here

I don’t know the actual date that it was official, but in my world it’s not official until professional baseball is underway and today we took the boys to see the Rangers’ AA team take on their AAA team.  The weather was beautiful, the kids were having fun, and baseball was being played.  My heart is officially full and the winter doldrums are shaken away.
