Light The Night 2016

It’s that time of year again where I frantically start my last minute fund raising for our annual Light the Night walk where we raise funds to help the fight against blood cancers in honor of Cutler’s successful battle against leukemia and in memory of my dear Grandmother Fricke who battled lymphoma.  No donation is too small and any sharing of our effort is greatly appreciated as we continue to push for the cause so that no one will have to go through what Cutler did when he was only 6 months old.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Our honored hero, Cutler now 7 years old and almost 7 years cancer free!

Our Little Fish

Last night was Cutler’s first swim meet…ever.  He was so confident in his speed that he decided to give the other poor fools he was competing against a sizeable head start.  He says he finished second in the heat, potentially supported by this video, but his ribbon was for third.  Expecting a quicker start next week.

The Great Ketchup Mustard Challenge

Not sure where it came from, but while having dinner on Saturday night Cutler came up with the idea to mix mustard and ketchup on a nacho chip.  He started by saying I wonder how it would taste and I offered him $.25 to give it a try, he countered with $100.  After a few minutes of tough negotiations we settled at $1.  For those not really in touch with Cutler’s eating prowess, you need to know that him even considering this was a huge step so I really didn’t think it was going to happen.  He was so proud of himself and was beaming the rest of the night.

It’s Moving Time…almost

A lot of people have learned already, but now it is official.  Melanie has taken a new job with Frito Lay that is having us move back to St. Louis.  We have mixed emotions about the move as we will miss our great friends and family here in Dallas, but this is a great opportunity for Melanie and I am really looking forward to spending some time around my family as I have lived in the area for only a year since I graduated from college so many years ago.  The boys feel the same way, but are very excited to be able to see their cousins more often.  We don’t know the date yet as we have to sell our house here and find one in St. Louis, but as it approaches I will be sure to share.

A Long Overdue Farewell

On Monday Grandma Lewis, my mother’s mom, passed away after a long and arduous couple of years for both her and the family.  My title may seem a bit insensitive, but it isn’t intended this way and it actually has multiple meanings.  First of all, it is long overdue as I should have posted something on Monday when it happened and I won’t provide a multitude of somewhat valid excuses as they are just excuses.  The title is also appropriate as my dear grandmother hasn’t really been with us for what feels like years.  Sure, she had come around in spurts here and there with lucid moments, but sadly she wasn’t herself for a long time and now all of her pain is finally gone and she is in heaven working grandpa over on not being such a pest with his ornery sense of humor (it’s mainly where I get mine from and now Cutler as a continuing line of awesome humor).

These are the words that I use to comfort those that try to comfort me when I tell them that my grandma passed away, but despite how much I believe she is in a better place and no longer in pain it still hurts a lot more than I anticipated.

Ain’t No One Getting These Slim Jims

We are on the road for a quick family vacation and fifteen minutes into the trip Mason has already put down almost an entire cantaloupe and two slim jims. 30 minutes later I look back and he has a death grip on the remaining deliciously unhealthy meat products.

Happy Birthday Kobi

So glad you became part of the immediate family when you came to help us with Cutler instead of just some strange third cousin twice removed that lives with squirrels.  Happy Birthday!  Go out and have a captain and coke on us.

Happy Birthday To World’s Best Mom

Today is the 50th (don’t do the math) birthday of the world’s best mom.  She may not appreciate my picking and prodding, but I wouldn’t tease her so much if I didn’t love her the way I do.  I wish we could be there to give you a birthday hug.  The card is in the mail…still.

Happy Birthday Betty Jean!!!

Ah, I am loving getting a free pass on my post per day quest when I get to wish happy birthday.  I wish I had thought of it when the trio of Hopkins girls passed through.

Sorry, back to the original reason for the post.  Happy Birthday to Betty Jean, my MonsterMother-in-Law.  Thank you for raising such a wonderful woman for me to marry.  You done good.

Here is a video of her playing it cool with my mother at the opening ceremonies on our Disney Cruise.
