Time For Some Football

While baseball is starting to move into the post season for Mason we are about to start a summer season of indoor flag football.  So sitting at my desk today working and thinking about how in the world I am going to coach this team of first time players, up popped this photo.  This was from April 2008 and Mason was about 2 1/2 years old.  The ball was almost as tall as him.

The Little Skater That Could

Two weeks ago Cutler got back on the ice after taking a little over a month off and he was falling down everywhere.  I think part of it was a little bit of rust mixed with him messing around, but I wasn’t for sure until Tuesday night when he went out again.  He skated faster than I had ever seen him and is finally skating with both feet and his arms.  When his 30 minute lesson was over he didn’t want to leave the ice.  So he kept going for another 30 minutes until the Zamboni had to do its job.  I think he also showed some competitiveness in that he wanted to do whatever the older kids were doing, including chasing Mason down while Mason skated backwards and racing another five year old around the rink…and winning according to him.

Adventurous Eating

Mason has always been pretty adventurous when it comes to trying new foods.  Tonight he took it a step further when he sampled dog food.  I don’t know why or what got him interested but after dinner he was feeding the dog and asked me if I had ever eaten dog food.  Naturally my initial thought was to lie, but then I figured it was best to tell the truth and admit that I had indeed given it a try.  When he asked me if it was any good I told him a simple no.  I looked over and he was eyeballing a piece that he had in his hand and so I told him to go for it.  He quickly took a bite and his only response was “It doesn’t have much flavor, but not bad”.  There are many things that I remember from my childhood that I often wonder when Mason will do them, but this was definitely not one that I expected from him.

Mason Loves The British

This is my assumption as they say imitation is the highest form of flattery and lately he has been obsessed with “sounding English”.  Here is his latest attempt from dinner tonight.  He sounded much better in the run up to this video.  I guess he ran out of material, but I thought I would share because I love the smile he shoots at the end.

Runaway Dog

After spending nearly two full days and a night Rookie had behaved amazingly. Playing in the lake nonstop and never showing a sign he wanted to wander off. That is until now. About 30 minutes ago I went to let him in and he was gone. I pray he finds his way home by the morning or some good soul finds him and takes the time to call my number from his tags. Otherwise I don’t know how I will explain this to the kids. Not to mention I will miss him greatly despot the troubles a puppy puts you through.

Camp Night

Camping with Mason next to the lake. The house, with ac and no bugs, is only 100 feet away. Thank goodness for a strong cell signal and netflix. At least Mason will sleep some tonight.

My Own Stanley Cup

Tonight my instructional hockey team, see beer league, won the season championship game. Really enjoying playing and learning the game until we were awarded our trophies…lukewarm miller lite.

Our Latest Graduate

Tonight Cutler had a graduation ceremony that I unfortunately had to miss for one of Mason’s baseball games.  I was just looking through Melanie’s pictures and videos and found this great photo of Cutler and his beautiful mother.  Finally a photo of Cutler minus the awkward smile.

Proud Father

Tonight during Mason’s baseball game I was gathering the kids in between innings and trying to get them motivated and Mason out of the blue spoke up and told the team “come on guys, let’s give them our best!”

I was more proud than if he had hit a game winning home run to see the leadership coming out in him.

And by the way, we came from behind for a big victory.
