Dinner Photo Bombs

While on the Disney cruise my mom thought it was a good idea to take photos of our food.  She said something along the lines of dad would like to see them.  I didn’t really see any value in doing so and so after a few times of going along with it I decided it was necessary to photo bomb a couple when she gave me her camera to photograph my food.  Melanie caught me and surprisingly decided to follow suit rather than scald me for my childish behavior.  Fortunately mom never noticed and I kept waiting and waiting to hear from her after she got home and showed dad the photos.  Sadly that moment never came and so either they didn’t want to indulge my sense of humor or their eye sight is going with their age.  Below are a sample of the photos, I’ll let you figure out which ones are photo bombed.  Sadly I still sit here and chuckle as I look at the photos.

Atlantis Dolphin Adventure

As I am struggling to find anything to post, validated by the last several days’ weak attempts to continue to my daily post streak, I figured it is time to return to our Disney cruise from this past December.  One of our ports of call was Nassau and we chose to visit Atlantis so that we could play with the dolphins.  Our first dolphin was pregnant and overly moody, so they had to bring in a second dolphin half way through.  I wish I could tell you which one is which in the pictures, but you know what they say about dolphins…  Ok, they don’t really say that, but it’s a good excuse for me to not name them.  I do believe the stand in was a young male, maybe two years old, named Menus.  No idea what the old bat’s name was.  Alas, it was a great experience and one that I would probably rate near the top of the trip.

Day 18 – Let The Reprogramming Begin

Just got home a couple of hours ago after traveling for more than 24 hours straight and our reprogramming effort is already under way to turn our kids back into our kids away from being full time grandkids.  It feels great to be home and get the warm hugs and cuddling we got from both of the boys.  Even better, I got to watch the last quarter of the football game with Mason.  We can’t thank Grandma, Aunt Pat, and Grandma Pam enough for traveling down and exhausting themselves trying to keep up with the boys’ schedules.  Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to join Melanie on a great vacation with just the two of us.  It makes the reprogramming well worth it.

Day 8: The Sugar Fairies Arrive

As Melanie and I are about to head out of the country for a week, in comes Grandma, Aunt Pat, and Grandma Pam to stay with the boys. I thought at first the spoiling would wait until we left, then I looked at the counter in the kitchen and found a pecan pie, cinnamon rolls, chocolate cinnamon cake, fudge of all sorts, m&ms, and Swedish fish. Not sure if this is all for the boys or to help the elderly keep up their energy level. Either way, I sat down with Mason tonight and asked him to please try and watch over the asylum while we are away. Hope the house is still standing upon our return.

Crosses For A Cure

As part of our efforts to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, my crafty mother is once again making some lovely crosses.  Last year it was all with barbed wire and beads, but she has now added some smaller versions made of just beads.  I’m sure there is some other stuff in there, but that is the best description this uncrafty person can provide.  Below are some pictures of what she has put together.  The larger ones are $25 and the smaller ones are $15.  They are in honor of Cutler as well as in memory of Grandma Boo, who recently passed away and had beaten Lymphoma once before.  If you are interested in purchasing any or have any questions, please contact Carol (my lovely mother) at cjkjf@outlook.com.  If she doesn’t reply, let me know and I will gently remind her to check her email.  🙂

See You In Time Grandma Boo

At 3 am Grandma Boo ended her fight and has found comfort and shelter from pain in heaven.  She was an inspiration in how to live life to your fullest and how to deal with what life gives you without complaining.  When I will hear thunder I will rest comfortably knowing it is Grandma Boo square dancing her way around heaven.

Grandma Lewis

I can’t mention my visit with Grandma Boo without talking about MeeMaw.  MeeMaw has been in the nursing home for what feels like forever now.  My mom refers to her as having 999 lives as she seems to cycle from not eating and not knowing who anyone is and getting very weak to starting to eat and having some good days where she realizes how good my mom has been to her.  I was very fortunate to have one of those good days with her on my last visit, the same day as the birthday party for Grandma Boo.  MeeMaw was always a great audience for my sarcastic humor while I was growing up and on this particular visit she was laughing at it all over again.

Not Right

I knew it was only a matter of time given the time that my parents and Melanie’s mom spend together in our house, but I never thought they would get caught on camera.  Unfortunately for Mason, he was the one to capture it.  I fear he will never be the same after witnessing such a horrible occurrence.  To make matters worse, Betty sat next to my dad at lunch today relegating my mom to the booth with the kids and then bought him a cookie and didn’t offer one for mom.  I am hoping that years of therapy will help us get through this.

Grandma Lewis’ 90th Birthday

Despite Grandma Lewis’ deteriorating condition she sat up strong and enjoyed her 90th birthday and was alert and aware of everyone’s love.  I only wish I could have been there for it.  Despite eating seldom she continues to hang in there.  Below is a picture of her proudly holding her roses given to her by my other amazing 90-year-old Grandma Fricke.

Grandma Lewis Update

Just talked to my mom and things are getting worse.  Grandma is not eating, but she does drink and this is probably the only thing keeping her alive right now.  Tonight my mom said that grandma was trying to talk, but couldn’t form words.  Please continue to pray for her to have a peaceful passing when it is her time and that she is comfortable until that point.

Below is a picture from when we visited with her this past labor day.  It was a beautiful day out so we wheeled her outside to have a lunch where she quickly gulped down her favorite veggie personal pan pizza.
