Nanny Diaries Part I

Hi all!  This is my first attempt at what Aaron has dubbed “The Nanny Diary.”  I feel like to do this, I first have to introduce myself to those who I have not yet met.  So here’s my life in 50 words or less:  I was born and raised in small-town Wyoming, and recently graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in psychology.  And while I am missing the mountains with all my heart, I love the lack of snow and subzero temperatures!  My mother and Melanie are first cousins, and, thanks to Google, I now know that that makes us first cousins once removed.  Now that I’ve fulfilled my narcissistic tendencies, I’ll turn to the little man that has brought us all together.

When I first arrived in Texas, I was introduced to the most stubborn person I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.  And for those of you who were blessed enough to know Alma Jeanne, this is saying a lot.  Cutler began our relationship being a bit indifferent and fussy, but in the past month I can see big changes.  He is getting out of the needing-to-be-constantly-held stage, and is really liking standing and playing at the coffee table.  And in the past few days, I feel like I have finally passed his test, because he is now offering me his pacifier.  While he might be a little offended that I don’t put it in my mouth, it’s heartwarming to be on the end of this time-honored gesture.

He is also making baby steps (pun intended) with the physical therapist.  The first few times that she came Cutler refused to be held by her, and would scream incessantly.  Now, he’ll let her hold him while continuing to scream incessantly.  He has made improvements with assisted walking, and will lift up his head and attempt to push himself up while lying on his stomach.  So while we aren’t yet chasing him around, he is definitely getting there!

I’ll let this be the appetizer for later entries.  I hope that this finds you well, and if there is an area that you are curious about, feel free to ask!

  1. What a great post and know they are so thankful for the love and attention given to sweet Cutler. Great to hear he is ‘working’ so hard on these things. So proud of him.

  3. You have just passed one of my tests. You are the only person I know besides myself that knows what a first cousin once removed is. It’s always getting confused with second cousins. I can drive people nuts with this discussion. Aaron would say I can drive people nuts period. I can’t wait to meet you. Take care of our little guy and we’ll see you at his party.

  4. Please tell Cutler that I just left my physical therapist’s place (I call it the torture chamber) and I am totally in agreement with him on the crying. However, I have noticed that my therapist isn’t at all phased by my tears. She just ignores my tears and goes on with what needs to be done. Thank goodness for that or I would never improve!
Many prayers for Cutler’s continued improvement,

p.s. I really enjoyed the appetizer. I am looking forward to the next course.

  5. Wow! Thank you for this great new way of keeping up with Cutler. This will also be a way to know how to continue to pray for this precious life and family. Kobi, does he babble much and does he like music?

  6. Kobi…..great post about my favorite one year old nephew! Even though you have an official relative title…I’ll just keep it as “my cousin” which is so much easier to say. Glad to hear things are going well with you and the hard-headed little one. Keep up the good work.

  8. Kobi, you write beautifully. Think Aaron has competition.

So glad to hear Cutler is improving to try other activities.

We are so grateful you have stepped in to help with Cutler.

Praying for Team Fricke. Keep blogging.

Talking about cousins, I am Melanie’s second cousin from Cajun country.

  9. I loved reading Kobi’s Nanny Diary. It’s hilarious, though—you and Aaron have the same sense of humor. I saw it in person when I drove with you to Murphy and it is so obvious in your blogs. I laugh til I cry!
Team Fricke has a new member that blends right in. Melanie, please nag her at times so she won’t miss me.
Love to all of you, especially Cutler AND MASON!
