Insurance Games

We got a bill from the insurance company the other day stating that we had to pay the extra amount for the private room since they did not agree to a private room.  So despite the fact that there are only private rooms in a transplant unit due to the low to no immune system required for a transplant, we now must go through the appeal process.  It’s a good thing Melanie handles these things, becaue I do not do well with stupidity and would quickly lose my cool.  I will save you all from my soap box and start working on the update of the day for Cutler…it’s a good one.

  1. I feel your pain with dealing with Insurance companies, I am so sorry they even bothered you with such an ignorant letter. If Melanie needs ANY help fighting them, it’s become my hobby since our twins came home from the hospital after months in intensive care. We got many letters of denial for similarly stupid stuff and processing erros, so I’ve become quite the crusader against Insurance Companies and am more than happy to write appeal letters for you if that saves you time (and agony!).

Keep up the blogging, it’s inspirational and helps us all feel connected to little Cutler (and Mason too!). He’s so cute and tough for a little guy.
    Sincerely,

    • Thanks for the offer Christi, I may take you up on it! Any suggestions, do I just work with Aetna to appeal, or go to the hospital as well? Aetna is saying they contracted with Medical City for a semi-private room and that I should talk to them about what they are charging.

  2. I am a benefits administrator, and that is one of the most stupid things I have heard. With everything else you are dealing with, you should not have to deal with something this ignorant. I hope this gets resolved in your favor soon.
