Happy Halloween

While Cutler did go out trick or treating last Halloween, this is the first one that really meant something for him and where he fully understood the objective of the night and he loved it.  Cutler recycled one of Mason’s old costumes as a dinosaur/dragon (your pick) and Mason chose the dark side and went as Darth Vader.  Below are a couple of pictures of the boys and their friends.  The best one is probably of Cutler showing how much he enjoys chocolate.

A Cubs Team That Wins

I have stepped away from coaching Mason’s team for this fall season and we joined the Cubs.  Kind of an odd move for you Cardinals fans to understand, but so far it has worked out well for us.  Below are a few pictures of Mason in action from this weekend.

Brother’s Day 2011

Wow, it’s been a full month since my last post.  With the temperature finally dropping into the 90’s I have found less and less time to sit down and put words to paper.  I’ll also blame it on my incredible wife’s ability to find something for the family to do every weekend in an effort to keep me from watching football.  🙂

In an effort to start my creativity going again I thought I would put up some pictures of the boys from our Brother’s Day adventure from this year.  If you recall, September 11th is the day that Cutler was diagnosed with leukemia.  It still brings up many emotions when I think back to that rainy day, but it has now turned into a day of celebration thanks to Mason.  Last year after enduring Mother’s and Father’s Day, Mason asked when was Brother’s Day and so we decided there was no better day than September 11th to help turn the memories of that day in a more positive manner.  This year was a lot more low key than last year, trip to Disney, due to Mason starting “real” school and so we just spent the day eating lunch at a butterfly festival and just hanging out…emphasis on hanging as it was the morning after my lovely wife threw a surprise birthday party for me.  Surprise is an understatement as my birthday is still a few weeks away, but that’s another story and those photos will not be made public.  🙂

Anyway, below are a few photos from our day out.

I can now say I have not gone a month without a post in two years.  🙂  Now I just need to finish Alaska before we go another trip.

Our Little Boy Is All Growns Up

Today was Mason’s first day somewhat off the payroll as he started kindergarten and amazingly no tears were shed and when I refer to tears I am referring to the parents.  At least I didn’t see Melanie shed any tears.  As for Mason, I think he couldn’t wait for us to leave.

Tiger Cubs

In search of activities in refrigerated air we decided to head to the Mesquite Rodeo on Saturday night and we weren’t there longer than 3o minutes we found ourselves bringing home two tiger cubs.  The older one really enjoys looking at himself in the mirror.

Are You Green?

Green as in envious or more recently the color of Mason’s karate belt.  Last Friday we endured a very long testing session of all colors for the karate school and Mason advanced to green belt.  Pretty quick progression for only one class a week.  Below are a few pictures from the night.

Giving Back

This past weekend the boys decided it was time to give back in their own way and so we packed up several bags of old toys and headed down to the hospital for a quick visit.  Ok, to be honest, Melanie pulled out all of the old toys and we called the hospital to see if they would take them, but Mason was definitely 100% behind the idea and this is something we will try do at least once every year.  He was very proud to give back.  We also did a visit around the hospital where we ran into a few of the nurses and doctors from our stay and it is always fun to watch the nurses look at Cutler and watch their shock as they suddenly realize that he is the little 6 month old baby from what now seems like so long ago.  Below are a few pictures from our visit, which mainly consists of the boys playing.

The Next Mike Liut

I would imagine that title is lost on a lot of you, but at least my dad will get it.  Below are a couple of videos of Mason’s latest hockey efforts.  The first is him “playing” goalie where he stones the best player on the ice and if you listen close enough you can actually hear him call out the block. (he gets the arrogance from his mother)  If you want to skip ahead, hit happens around the 53 second mark.

This next video is at the beginning of his most recent scrimmage where he “won” the faceoff and the team went on to score a goal.  It’s a good example of how much he has improved as a skater.  Apparently those weekly private lessons are worth the money.

And finally just a short clip as a reminder why we continue to go to the weekly private lessons.
