Grandma Fricke

I have been intending on posting this every day for the past couple of weeks, but every time I sit down I struggle to get past writer’s block.  I don’t know that I have ever written about it before but my father’s mother, Grandma Fricke or Grandma Boo, beat lymphoma several years ago.  A few months ago it was found that the lymphoma had returned and she made the decision to not fight it this time around.  About three weeks ago Grandma was found unresponsive in her apartment and after several tests a mass was found on her brain and it is thought to be from the lymphoma.  After some time in the hospital she was moved into the same nursing home as my mother’s mother, Grandma Lewis or MeeMaw.  Grandma Boo started out recovering well and working with the therapists, but has had a few set backs where she has lost the use of her right hand.  I was able to visit over Labor Day weekend and as is usual for Grandma Boo, she fought hard to sit up and interact with me.  She has her good days and bad days and tires rather easily.  I am glad that I was able to visit her, especially as I was there for her 92nd birthday party.

Please pray not just for Grandma Boo, but for my parents, Aunt Linda, and all of my family during this tough time.

  1. Prayers to your whole family. Our Grandparents are so precious, embrace your time together. This brings back special memories of mine, and I miss them all tremendously.

  2. Thanks so much for your kind words. My mother has always been such a special woman. I visited her yesterday and she has become famous in the therapy department at the nursing home for willingly and eagerly trying all of the therapy they ask her to do, no matter how weak she is. She continues to be such a wonderful role model, even today.
